From the Desk of Eric Platt
Welcome back to school, Warriors!!! I hope you are all rested and ready to go because our 2017-2018 school year is going to be PRODIGIOUS! As always there have been some changes to Markham over the summer, both physically and conceptually. Some classrooms have been moved and some renovations have been done to keep the building current. Continuing with last year's changes, the new modified block-schedule will be going into effect; these changes should help support all of you and keep you focused on your job - growing and improving every day.
The staff is excited to have you back and is looking forward to deepening Markham’s sense of community and connectedness. As always you will be expected to focus on personal accountability and responsibility as you strive to be the best possible WARRIOR! If we all work to keep a mindset of growth and betterment while supporting each other through our own personal journeys (remember - complete one another, don't compete with one another) Markham will continue to be a special place.
This summer I was fortunate to come across the work of Brian and Tim Knight and their Focus 3 business. They are growth coaches who help leaders in business, sports, and education become more effective at improving the culture of their organizations. Two of their messages I would like to share with you: 1.) Complaining has no upside. and 2.) Stay focused on getting better. The first one is self-explanatory but I would like to expand on the second idea. It doesn't matter what the question, excuse, or rebuttal is if we keep the answer, "doesn't matter, get better" we will foster a culture of growth and improvement. So whatever your goals are for the coming school year make sure to greet all obstacles, challenges, hurdles, doubts, setbacks, excuses, accomplishments, awards, accolades, honors, and triumphs with
"IT DOESN'T MATTER...GET BETTER!"
Warriors give their best at all times and expect the best from those around them. Let’s make 2017-2018 the greatest year in Markham's history!
