Markham Place Music Students
Receive Prestigious Recognition
All Shore Intermediate Band is a select honors concert band comprised of the most dedicated, advanced middle school band students in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The All Shore Intermediate Band is organized and run by music educators from Monmouth and Ocean County Schools who want to provide their students with a challenge and opportunity to perform music at a high level. All band directors involved volunteer their time to prepare, organize, and conduct the ensemble. This year, Maggie Mullaney was accepted into All Shore Intermediate Band. Maggie performed a fantastic concert in February at the Neptune Performing Arts Center and the students who attended the concert truly enjoyed her performance.
Like All Shore Band, All Shore Orchestra is a select orchestra for Monmouth and Ocean County strings students who qualify by audition based on proficiency in performing scales, a solo performance, and sight reading supplied at the time of the audition. Grade 7 through 9 violinists, violists, cellists, and double bassists compete for qualification into the ensemble. This year, Reilly Williams was accepted into All Shore Orchestra, and she performed at Wall Intermediate School in February. In addition, Charlene Melinsky, Carly Crampanis and Connor Barkey have been selected to perform with the New Jersey Symphony Youth Orchestra. They have concerts coming up in April and June at the Middletown Arts Center.
A few weekends ago, six students auditioned for CJMEA Region Band and Region Choir. Students from seven counties from Central New Jersey competed. Over 1,500 students participated in the audition for these ensembles! Louise Joyce, Olivia Cassidy, Charlsea Chace and Kelly Malone were accepted into Region Choir. Kelly came in 8th out of the 300 students who auditioned! The students will be performing on March 11th at 3 PM at Monroe Township High School.
Finally, Ray Faiella came in second place out of all of the trombones in Central New Jersey! Region Band is extremely competitive, so this is a huge accomplishment for Ray! He will be performing with the Regional Wind Ensemble, the highest level ensemble in regions! His concert is on March 5th, 3 PM at Monroe Township High School.

CyberPatriot Team
Finishes Season 9th in Nation!
Our Markham Place CyberPatriot teams worked hard competing in the Semifinals round from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM on Super Bowl Sunday at the CommVault location in Tinton Falls! They were charged with ensuring 3 virtual images of client operating systems were secure. They also needed to complete a Cisco Networking quiz along with creating a virtual network of servers! Can you imagine that this is being done by our 6th-8th graders? By the time all the scoring was tallied up of the 226 Middle School teams that were competing, our Warriors team, which included Matthew Schmitt, Carter Costic, Eden Stein and Matthias Lazewski, ended up 9th in the Nation overall! In addition, our Blue & White team, including Michael Mueller, Connor Langa, Jack Clausing and Patrick McGagh, ended up 66th. The teams ended their season placing 1st and 2nd in the State. Our CyberPatriots did a fantastic job this year thanks to the hard work of the students and the coaching of Mr. Jansky, our parent volunteer, and Mrs. Whittle, our Point Road STEM teacher and club advisor. Congratulations to all who participated!
Family Fitness Night Drew a Crowd
On Thursday, February 2nd, Point Road School hosted its 11th Annual Family Fitness Night. The event was attended by 140 people, consisting of Point Road students and their family members. The participants joined in four different activities including a basketball shootout, an obstacle course, a yoga class, and bobsled races. The goal of the program was to promote a healthy and active lifestyle inside and outside of school and, thanks to the help of twenty teacher volunteers, we were able to achieve that. The students and their families got quite the workout. Luckily they were able to cool down and fuel up thanks to our amazing PTO’s donation of snacks and drinks. We are looking forward to next year's Family Fitness Night!
Three Point Road Wonder League Robotics Teams
Complete Final Mission
Last month, I included a Spotlight regarding our 2nd Graders at Point Road that competed in the Wonder League Robotics competition using the Dash and Dot robot. Of the twenty 2nd grade teams at Point Road that competed in this international competition, five of them scored a Perfect Score in the Competition and were asked to participate in the Perfect Round Competition. For this round, students were given a "mission" that required them to code Dash to move, avoid obstacles and even drop ping pong balls into cups! Of those 5 teams, 3 of the teams completed the Perfect Round Mission. Those teams were Maze Creepers which included Nate Van De Graaff, Laura Nijnens, Korbin Cuozzo and Isabella Lombardi; Dash Crash team including RJ Verderese, Ryan Wetmore, Zach Mulholland and Jack Ciatto; and Dashers which included Mia Cupo, Grace Crow, Gavin Kelly and Jack Nichols. These 5 teams met after school in shifts from 3:00-4:00 PM and 4:00-5:00 PM and were coached by our Point Road STEM teacher, Mrs. Whittle. They were so enthused and determined to complete the mission that some students even came during their recess time! If you would like to see their completed missions, visit https://goo.gl/iWSTaa to see the Maze Creepers, https://goo.gl/L2DLks to see Dash Crash and https://goo.gl/9TqHFW to see Dashers. Congratulations to all three teams on their hard work!
The 7th Grade Trip to Camp Bernie Was a Great Success!
YMCA Camp Bernie’s Overnight Camp is a tradition for our students. Little Silver’s 7th grade students attend this annual overnight trip where they are grouped into Units by gender, with each Unit divided into cabins composed of 8-10 campers. Campers are engaged in instructional activities, structured free play and memorable all-camp events each session. The overnight camp program is designed for campers to have fun while realizing their individual and collective potential. The activities allow campers to build confidence, try new things and have fun. The 7th grade had a fun and adventurous time at Camp Bernie this year! The students worked together to challenge and encourage themselves and others as well as gain an appreciation and understanding for the wilderness that surrounded them. Mr. Platt’s zip-lining adventure was one for the record books!
