"One of the most important things we adults can do for young children is to model the kind of person we would like them to be."

POINT ROAD
Point Road facilitated a “School Rules Workshop” to involve students in developing a framework to guide their decision-making in school. Students in Kindergarten through 4th grade worked to identify guidelines that support the school philosophy of being “Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn.” During Respect Week (October 3rd-7th) each classroom will create a poster with a slogan or creative expression to illustrate one of the school rules. Friday October 7th is Unity Day & Sock It to Bullying Day. All staff and students are encouraged to wear blue and white. Staff and students are also encouraged to wear mismatched socks to show their individuality, creativity and acceptance of one another. Violence Awareness Week is October 17th - October 21st.
MARKHAM PLACE
As a follow-up to September’s Spotlight regarding the creation of Social Houses or Kith, Markham Place convened for a full-school assembly where Mr. Platt announced the membership of every Kith. Each Kith, comprised of approximately 20 students from grades 5-8 and two faculty members, worked collaboratively to create a foundation for their unique group. While building deeper more meaningful relationships with one another, the students also began to identify the "totems" by which their Kiths would be recognized: Names, logos, missions and leadership structure - No two Kiths are the same! The building of this foundation will continue in the months to come. Additionally, students will work on service learning projects as well as partake in a unit of study from the It’s Okay to be Different program entitled Courage to Care. This curriculum is intended to give the students the skills to stand up to peer pressure and discrimination by exploring events in history that depict the struggle for human rights.
PARCC SCORES ARE IN!
During the September 29th Board of Education meeting, the 2016 PARCC score results were presented to the community. A link to the presentation can be found by clicking on the image or by visiting the Parent Resources on our website. We are very proud of the scores as they reflect the hard work of teachers and students in meeting the expectations of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. |
The Monmouth County School Board Association (MCSBA) recognized both the Little Silver Board of Education AND Little Silver’s Student Musicians!
The Little Silver Board of Education completed their final credit to receive Board Member Certification. During the September 22nd Monmouth County School Board’s Association meeting held at the Colts Neck Inn, Little Silver Board members were recognized as achieving “Certified Board” status by fulfilling 18 professional development hours, beyond their required PD, in a variety of areas including: Group Process, Decision making, Planning and Effective Meetings. To mark this momentous occasion, Mrs. Bennett and Ms. Brush conducted three different ensembles (an acapella group, a strings trio, and a wind ensemble) to help celebrate the achievement. The performance by the Little Silver musicians marked the first time the MCSBA hosted student performers! The Little Silver Board of Education is now working toward their “Master Board” certification!
